Course Map and Such

Well the course is looking tip top if I do say so. A few minor things before race day and it should be Prime. Anyways I thought i would quick update you all on the course for the different races.

The Beginner race will be about an entire lap minus White Knuckle Willy, Cassie's Climb, and Headlight alley. This means only one creek crossing but both big hills. Expect finish times to be about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes for the average beginer racer. Distance is about 7-8 miles.

The sport race will be the entire lap plus 1 parade lap. The parade lap consists of the field edge, million dollar ride, and rippin edge. This is to space everyone out. Distance is about 12-13 miles. Expect finish times to be about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes for the average sport racer.

The expert race will be two entire laps plus 1 parade. Distance is 22-23 miles. Expect expert finishers to be anywhere from 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hourse 40 minutes.

Those are my best guesses since i cant find last years results. I dont have a cyclometer on my bike either so these are the distances I've heard from others.

There are a few short new sections not show on this map...

Also bellow is a little better map with my own editing hopefully showing a little better where the race is. We will have signs on Airport road directing you to the race site.

See you at the race!!

Getting Close

With race day fast approaching there are a few things yet to be done. At this point it's just finishing work but so far everything is shaping up pretty nicely.

One major update is the band. We secured River and the Tributaries for live Music on Saturday night. They are a super cool folk rock band from originally from Dubuque but now residing in Iowa City. I think these guys could go all they way with their music don't miss your chance to hear them live before they hit main stream.

Some other updates include the finishing of the indy drop reroute. Beginners will still most likely go down the old indy drop but sport and expert racers will get to experience the new route. It's super fun!!! Check out kyle riping it so fast he's a bit of a blur.

Also recently completed was some new bridge features for the DH course. Sorry for the bad quality but it's a bit dark in the woods and I'm not the best cammera operator.

Finally I would like to let everyone know that the UWP cycling club will be out on Saturday and Sunday selling some food. Not sure what they all have planned but there should be some stuff avaiable for those not racing and reciving a complementary burrito.

Time Trial and Trail Conditions

Well the time trial is tomorrow and I am pumped!!! It should be a great day for it!!

This weekend Dave, Evan, and I worked on a reroute for Indy Drop because of how washed out it got. I picked out a nice deer trail that I thought would turn into a fun and fast DH. It ended up being a bit gnarly than I had hoped. Today I took by first ride down it. The first run I cleaned it alright. I felt pretty out of control and almost crapped myself but I made it. Being the person I am though I felt like I had to hike up it again to see if it was really that tuff or if it was just because it was my first ride down. The second time down proved to be disaster. I got a little loose and boinked a rock with by wheel which in turn exploded. Damn alloy nipples :)

Thanks to everyone who has helped out with trail work this year. After the horrible spring we have had the trails are in great shape. More needs to be done but they are looking good. For everyone who has helped so far thanks again. I also wanted to point out a trail workers best friend the brush hog. This guy has worked tirelessly to help maintain the trails. The nice thing is when he's out of gas you can just add more. "Why cant we get every mall-walker or wal-mart walker one of these, could you imagine all the mowing that could get done!!

I wanted to leave you with a great picture I got of the field at the end of Timber Dr. What a view!!

Trails and Course Work

Well tomorrow is the day of the impromptu time trial. Looks like it should be a great day for it. I am pumped!!

Dave, Evan, and I put in a Indy drop reroute yesterday. It's a really cool piece of DH single track that turned out to be a lot gnarly than I wanted. Figured the best name for a piece of singltrack that tuff would be JRA "Just Riding Along" because of all the people that would use that excuse when bringing bikes and parts into the shops after riding this little section of trail. Tonight was the first time I rode down it. First run went OK but i felt out of control and I just about crapped myself. So being me I figured I would have to hike up to the top for another run at it. The second run was disaster. I got a little loose boinked a rock and my wheel exploded "see bellow" Damn alloy nipples.

I also wanted to say thanks to everyone who has put in trail work this year. The trails are in great shape even with the horrible spring we had. I also wanted to plug a trail worked best friend the brush hog. Why can't we give every mall walker or wal-mart walker one of these things and have them do some useful trail work?

Finally I'll leave you with an awesome sunset picture I took in field at the end of timber drive. What a great view!!

The Trails Are In Great Shape!!!

Just wanted to give everyone a update on the trail conditions. The trails are in great shape except for a few sections which need to be reworked. Everything is super fast and looking good. I hope the dry weather holds out so we can get back to some since of normality with the trails. The last remnants of wetness are almost dried out and just need a few more days of sun.

Bellow are a few trail pics from the awesome ride on Friday.

I wish the camera could capture everything else because the pictures just don't do enough justice.

Summer Riding

Thanks for checking out the blog!! This page will display all the updates and happening on the way to race weekend. Please checkout the side bar for links to the race flyer and information about preregistration.

Well the trails are starting to come back to life after all of the rain and strong plant growth the summer has brought so far. This last Saturday Marge got together a big group ride out at the trails. There were so many people she needed to get a bus!!!

The climbs are as grueling as ever the heavy rains move all the rocks around making the good line the hard one to find. Bellow is a shot of Timmy's Screamer. Can you scream when your gasping for air??

Please join us for the next group ride at the Farm on Tuesday!! Cya
